Every Student Succeeds Act - Basic Skills

Title I Multiple Measures for Identification of Students

A comprehensive, weighted rubric is used to identify students for the Title I/PAC/LEAP Programs in Language Arts Literacy. PAC afterschool and LEAP summer programs provide support to students in the areas of literacy. New rubrics are completed yearly to determine eligibility for PAC/LEAP programming.

Basic Skills Programming

Basic skills instruction is provided to students in grades K-8 in the areas of literacy and math.  Services are provided in either a pull-out or teacher push-in method of delivery, or a combination of both. Students in need of basic skills are identified using multiple measures inclusive of standardized testing, classroom performance and teacher input.  Intervention programs are designed to support skills in need of remediation so that students meet with grade-level success.

Goals are set by the basic skills teacher and progress monitoring performed approximately every two weeks using the AimsWeb Plus progress monitoring system.  In doing so, teachers are able to measure the effectiveness of instruction in meeting a student’s unique needs and adjust if necessary. Parents are provided with reports of student progress. This program provides actionable data teachers can use to determine if interventions are working or if a student is no longer in need of basic skills support.

Programs such as Fundations, Leveled Literacy Intervention, and Touch Math are utilized to meet the unique instructional needs of basic skills students.
